New Post: Umlaut display is NOT correct...

My Gedcom has lots of names of individuals and locations in Germany with an unlaut in it. For example, M�unstermaifeld is the way Münstermaifeld is displayed after the file has been built. How do I get this to show up correctly? I suspect it has to be in the construction of the Gedcom itself, as I know that the umlauts can be displayed correctly.

Today I have downloaded and ran UncelGED and very much like what it does. And best of all, it is free. Thank you.

However, when I choose to have it save the output to a folder other than "My Documents/My UncleGED" it does not put all the needed files in the alternate folder. I have to copy everything from "My Documents/My UncleGED" to the alternate folder. Just a small
step, but why have this option in the program, if it does not work correctly.

Also you need to have the program rebuild the "My Documents/My UncleGED" if it should get deleted. The UncelGED crashes if it does not find this folder on startup.

There is also a checkbox for having the menu at the top of the family pages. I can find no difference whether this box is checked or not.

new user here. UncleGED seems to do all I want it to do with my gedcom file.

but we have some collateral info, other websites we would like to put links to.

Is there an easy way to do this without having to edit the html after the fact?

anothur user here. in the main page text box you can put html code, the main page text box could be made larger ao its hard to type directly into it, but I usually type the code in word pad and then paste it in. if you go to my page at ..see my page http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~baylyn/ you can see my effort

I recentlly decided to remove my e-mail address from my UncleGed pages for two reasons

1) I didn't want to make it easy for robots etc to collect my e-mail address

2) Some webmail applications appear to have difficulty with the 'mailto' command

I modified the project to remove my e-mail address and then rebuilt the pages

When I checked the pages the Author's name had also disappeared

Is there any work round for this or do I need to manually edit each page (>150 !!) to remove the e-mail address

It would be nice if attached images were included with the output.

I also ran into an issue in which a birth year is not defined for a person. When hitting the chronology page, everyone is clustered together in the 1300 block. Other than that, good job

Commented Feature: Sort Children By Birth Order [4702]

It would be great if families could be sorted by birth order when all children in the family have a birth date. If it used the order of the children in the family records that would work well because I could write a utility to reorder the children in that record since FTM doesn't appear to obey the order set in the application.

Please sort children by birth order or at least give the option to. So far I like this program better than the others I've tried, but this issue is a deal-breaker.

uged_10.2.3921.29478.zip appears to not handle the diacriticatal marks properly. I created a gedcom file from The Master Genealogist v6.

When I edit that file (using NotePad) the umlauts are visable (Example: 1 NAME Gottfried /MÜHLETHALER/ ) however when the html file is created there is an unrecoginized place holder there that looks like a diamond with a question mark for that character.

Did I miss a setting or something or is there still more coding necessary?

I had similar problems but Mike's suggestion of converting the file to UTF-8 worked - for most of them anyway. I did struggled with a couple of others though and ended up by entering their names into Family Tree Maker using the ascii code for the special characters. For example, Anthony Zbigniew BAŁAZIŃSKI. UncleGED displays this as Anthony Zbigniew BAŁAZIŃSKI.
For me it's a satisfactory solution because the Web display is far more important to me than the one in Family Tree Maker.

I remember an earlier release changed the heading "Marriage Notes for ........." to appear as "Marriage/Union Notes for.........." but have just reaslised that under the last several releases, we seem to have changed back to the original.
With the heading appearing as "Marriage/Union Notes for......" it meant that the information contained beneath the heading would be relevent to those who were not married as well as to those who were.
I wonder if this changed back due to other changes relevent to marriage details?

Commented Feature: Adopted/Step Children [5353]

I'm using UncleGED 10.1 and FTM 2006. A related problem is on the children of multiple parents. A real example is the natural mother died when child was 1+ years old. The natural father was unable to care for child, so he let an unmarried Aunt raise the child. The Aunt subsequently married, then she and husband adopted the child. The child grew to maturity and later married.
So with ver 10.1, I was pleased to see that UncleGED shows the child under both parents.
I did add an "Adopted" fact to the child, so that appears on the child's Family page along with his other facts.
But on the child's Family page, UncleGED only shows his adoptive parents with no indication of his natural parents.
I realize showing multiple parents with links to their Family page would be a big effort, and I'm very uncertain how to suggest a Family Page layout or format.
Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any suggestions?
Otherthan within the "notes", what entries could I put in FTM that would export to the GEDCOM such that UncleGED could better depict the actual relationship described? I would appreciate anyone's thoughts / suggestions.

Is there a possibility of showing both sets of natural and adoptive\step\etc parents on the childs page or pages if he had multiple marriages? It would be two sentences, example:

maleName, son of fatherName and motherName, was born birthDate in birthPlace. He was adotped by stepFatherName and stepMotherName on adoptedDate in adoptedPlace. He married spouseName on marriageDate in marriagePlace. He died deathDate in deathPlace.

By the way, I still recommend each parent should be their own paragraph is same <div class="household">.
